Bin-Yan ZHANG, Yu-Li HE

Yun Nan Restaurant's founder Zhang Bin-Yan is a new immigrant from Myanmar and has lived in Taiwan for 25 years. Zhang’s mother-in-law is Hakka and a chef of Taiwanese outdoor catering, and Zhang learned to speak Hakka and cook Hakka cuisine from her mother-in-law. Zhang grew up in a Yunnan village in Myanmar and lived in Thailand for eight years, resulting in an upbringing that integrates the culture of Myanmar, Yunnan, Thailand, and Hakka. This dish was created with Zhang’s daughter He Yu-Li and incorporates local produce and Hakka lifestyle.
