“Laundry pools” are communal outdoor laundries built by the traditional Hakka people using irrigation canals. Extending across the laundry pool, the Bo Gong Temple, and the bus waiting pavilion, the Xiaojiang Pavilion Laundry Pool is an important place for laundry, faith, and emotional exchange. Based on the concept of a laundry cooperative, the project is curated by PiliWu-Design, with CONCENTRIC PRODUCTION responsible for improving the laundry area. Our Chudong, a local publication initiated by teachers and students of Zhudong Junior High School, was invited to join the exhibition planning, and through field survey, the usage habits and needs of the laundry ladies were also considered. Putting forward suitable and optimized proposal and contents, the project hopes to acquaint more people with the past, present and future of the Xiaojiang Pavilion Laundry Pool.

With the motto "form follows story," PiliWu-Design continues to experiment with actions and implement them into the context of different culture and style. We believe design should be tailored to the local conditions, presenting not only historical events displayed in the museum, but local wisdom and attitude from everything we see and hear. In addition to telling retro stories, cultural creativity ought to develop contemporary design that evolves with everyday life.
